Always wear a Personal Floatation Device
Wearing a PFD IS cool! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Waterways, especially those with tides can be stronger and more hazardous than one might think. Don't take any risks, always wear a properly fitting PFD. For more information please follow the link below to the U.S Coast Guard PFD website.

Never leave your board or kayak
Your board or kayak provide additional floatation and increase your visibility. They also move through the water much more efficiently than swimming. Unless your equipment is broken, or you are in imminent danger, you are much better off sticking together. Always attach your SUP leash to your ankle as the likelihood of becoming separated in a fall is high, and surface winds can cause your board to move away from you quickly. Standing up on a SUP can cause significant wind resistance. If you encounter such a situation, do not leave the board, simply lay down on your stomach and paddle with your arms to safety.
